The term "mild steel" is used to describe low-carbon steel. While mild steel is still strong and tough, it can be further strengthened by the process of carburising - a heat treatment using a source of carbon. Where is mild steel used?
Mild steel has many applications that include construction (especially to meet seismic or wind requirements), machine parts and pipelines.
As mild steel is difficult to break and easy to form, it is also used in sculptures and outdoor designs (e.g. fences). To prevent corrosion, it is usually galvanised or painted. You probably use or see mild steel products every day in wires, nails, decorations, and many furniture elements. Even road signs are made of low carbon steel!
