Carbon steel plate is also known as plain carbon steel, besides the presence of carbon, there are trace amounts of silicon, manganese, sulfur, phosphorus and other elements. As the amount of carbon increases, the hardness and strength are improved yet the plasticity deteriorates.
With the carbon content ranging from about 0.05% to 2.1% it is classified into four groups:
Low carbon steel has a content of 0.05 to 0.25%, it is appreciated for its balanced ductility and strength and good wear resistance.
Medium carbon steel contains a content of 0.3 - 0.5%, this implies that it is strong enough to be applied in the manufactoring of springs and edged tools.
High carbon steel is comprised of 0.6 to 1.0 % of carbon and it is highly regarded for its strength characteristics.
Ultra-high carbon steel is mainly composed of 1.25 - 2.0 % of carbon, it can be easily tempered to exhibit great hardness.
Carbon steel plate is mainly used in the construction industry for buildings, ships, engineering machinery, bridges, mining machinery, railway vehicles, highways, chemical plants, power plants, wind turbines and so on.
Carbon steel plates have the advantages of high strength, good plasticity, excellent weldability and corrosion resistance. After quenching and tempering, the strength and hardness of carbon steel plates are enhanced, which meets the requirement of manufacturing parts with higher strength. Besides, these plates can not only be processed and manufactured through cold and hot rolling, but also can be processed by deep drawing, bending and other forming processes. In addition, the good welding properties enable us to weld the plates into structures of any shape and length through different welding methods. Even though carbon steel plates are not stainless steel, they still have sufficient corrosion resistance under normal use and storage, and their corrosion resistance can be improved through surface treatment and coating.
